Christmas Ad – at last Santa changes his mindset

Yes, Christmas 2019 has come and gone and we are already well into the new year, but till now I had not seen a Xmas Ad that I really liked. But then I saw 2 that reached out and really pulled at the heartstrings.

1. The Christmas ad with a kinder Santa

I chanced upon this W+K’s work for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and was pleasantly surprised to at last find a new take on the traditional HO! HO! HO!

I almost teared up over the last lines that said “Show me an interesting, fully formed person, and I’ll show you a once-‘difficult’ child. It’s only taken me a thousand years, but I think I finally see it. These kids, they’re not ‘naughty’ or ‘nice.’ They’re kids.”

We could call this ad a Santa’s gift to parents and guardians – I only wish it had greater reach here in India too where we are all too quick to label our kids and pass judgment.

And then we come to another Christmas ad that doesn’t feature a Santa at all…or does it?

This one from Levi’s has just 7 views on YouTube. But the message is warm and fuzzy and emotional enough for me to feel like sharing it. Christmas, after all, is about family and love and all things mushy.
